In 1972 a nuclear reactor began to be constructed in Kalkar Germany called SNR-300, but never opened due to construction problems, mass protests, and the Chernobyl disaster. The unfinished reactor site was abandoned from 1991-1995 until it went up for auction and was purchased by Hennie Van Der Most who transformed the former nuclear plant into a theme park. One of the rides within the park utilizes the nuclear waste cooling tower which now has mountains painted on its facade in an attempt to blend into the natural scenery. To utilize the cooling tower a carnival swing ride was retrofitted into the center which whirls participants along the contours of it's inside walls.
